Glossary: Circular Segment
A **Circular Segment** is the geometric region of a circle cut off from the rest of the circle by a chord. In horizontal cylinder tanks, circular segments are computed to calculate partial fill volumes for any liquid depth.

Calculating partial fill volume requires circular segment calculations. Because the height of a circular segment is not linear to its area, strapping tables or segment equations must be run to translate fluid depths to volumes.
