buildercalc exists to give trades and engineers accurate, verifiable estimates. Every tool is built on a published standard, hand-checked against worked examples, and openly sourced — this page explains how.

How our calculators are built

  • Published formulas only. Each tool implements a citable engineering formula or code provision (listed on Data Sources) — never an undisclosed proprietary method.
  • Reviewed against the standards. Formulas and default values are reviewed against ACI 318, ASTM A615, NEC Article 310, IRC/IBC and AWC span data by the buildercalc engineering team, and re-checked when a referenced standard is updated.
  • Verified with worked examples and test vectors. Every calculator ships with test cases whose outputs are re-computed by hand to confirm correctness before release.

Estimates, not stamped engineering

buildercalc results are planning estimates. They do not replace a licensed professional engineer, local permitting, or the authority having jurisdiction. Always verify against the currently adopted code and a qualified professional before you build. See our Disclaimer for the full scope.

Corrections policy

If a result does not match its source standard, tell us. Email [email protected] with the tool name, your exact inputs, and the value you expected. We investigate every report and correct verified errors promptly.

Honest coverage

Where a tool's data is not yet independently verified against a primary source, we say so rather than implying certainty. Our coverage of cited standards expands as we verify more of them.
